ArchiLU and OrbusInfinity: Comparing Two Enterprise Architecture Tools

Two tools, two descriptions

Orbus Software publishes OrbusInfinity, which it presents as its enterprise transformation platform. According to the vendor, a Visio add-in lets users model against the repository and sync changes back. Existing Visio files can be imported, with objects and relationships extracted. Diagrams are published to SharePoint, and Power BI dashboards serve stakeholders. Orbus also describes a drag-and-drop diagram editor in the browser, with version control.

Orbus states native support for ArchiMate 3.2 and TOGAF 10, with ready-made templates for ArchiMate, TOGAF and BPMN. On 11 December 2024, the vendor announced the acquisition of Capsifi, an Australian business architecture specialist whose capabilities it is integrating into OrbusInfinity.

ArchiLU, published in Luxembourg by MIP-IT SARL, maintains a graph linking strategy, capabilities, processes, applications, technologies, providers and contracts. Landscapes are displayed in ArchiMate and processes are drawn in BPMN. Each object can have an owner, and Board decisions rely on the same graph.

The Microsoft environment

For an organisation that already models in Visio and shares documents in SharePoint, the functions Orbus describes narrow the gap between the drawing tool and the repository. Check on your own files what the import extracts and what still has to be reworked.

In ArchiLU, landscapes and processes are drawn in the product. The Microsoft Entra ID connection retrieves the applications declared in your directory, their vendors and their owners. User sign-in can go through the company directory.

Criteria that decide

Beyond the office environment, the comparison concerns how information is maintained and how decisions are made.

• Links with your tools: Visio, SharePoint, the directory, the CMDB, Jira or Confluence.
• Ownership: who completes, who confirms, and what stays visible when nobody is accountable.
• Decisions: the request, the document examined, the reasoning and the log.
• The DORA chain: from the critical or important function to the provider and the contract.
• Hosting: the data region, the subprocessors and the deployment options.
• Reversibility: export formats during and at the end of the contract.

How ArchiLU answers

ArchiLU reads the ServiceNow CMDB without changing it, attaches Jira tickets and Confluence pages to architecture documents, and takes in inventories through an Excel workbook. Each observation keeps its source; owners validate what enters the repository.

For DORA, the chain starts from the critical or important function and follows applications and ICT services down to providers and contracts. The exposure analysis flags concentration and critical objects without an owner. The Board keeps each decision with its reasoning and the version of the document examined.

Each organisation has its own dedicated instance, hosted in the European Union; deployment on your infrastructure is an optional service, quoted separately. The full export covers the whole repository and can be reimported into an empty database.

Testing on your own case

Take a domain your teams know well: a few applications, their Visio diagrams, their providers and a current request. Have it documented in each tool, then compare how existing files are taken in, which gaps are flagged and what each role reads.
